John Hornsby Head Shot - Speaker - Designer - Brand Strategist

Hi! I'm John Hornsby

Founder, CEO, Creative Director. Call me what you like. I’m the primary creative and organizational force here at Hornsby Creative. Though we sometimes partner with other creatives to make projects happen, chances are you’ll be working with me on the front end as we collaborate to discover, design and deliver your next branded experience.  According to the Gallup Strengths Finders methodology, my top 5 core strengths are Connectedness, Input, Ideation, Strategic, and Achiever.

What that means is my natural talents lie in intuitively spotting the ways things are interconnected. That I spent a lot of time listening to our clients and researching to understand. That I excel at generating ideas, concepts and potential solutions. That I also am critical of those ideas and take the time to consider all angles before choosing the best course of action. And I am driven to deliver, stretch, grow and accomplish results.

Let’s chat about how I can apply these strengths to help focus and grow your business to make a greater positive and profitable influence.

Our Vision

By design we will shape our world into a thriving and equitable home for future generations. We are creating a flexible and profitable lifestyle for our clients, our partners and ourselves.

our values

The core values will that drive our daily L.I.F.E. decisions are:

Loving Curiosity over fear

We consciously choose to make decisions from a mindset of loving curiosity and abundance over fear and scarcity. We show Compassion by always considering the others’ point of view to be as valid as our own. We Inspire by cheering on each other, our clients, and colleagues and spreading a positive “can do” vibe of support. We have Fun: Remember our work is important, but work is not the most important thing. So we better have fun with this. We empower organizational leaders to seize opportunities and grow efficiently, by design.

Integrity

We should do the right thing every time and be true to our word, especially when it is the most inconvenient. We believe in people before profits: People and our environment are our most valuable resources and should be treated as such. We take Accountability for failure, with grace, rather than place blame, even if we feel it’s not our fault.

Flexibility

Be willing to adapt and be open to other points of view and believe that good ideas can come from anywhere. We understand the truth can be evidence-based or may be intuitive. We practice Honest Self Assessment. We must be curious and honest about our own shortcomings and failures. We are committed to continuously improving ourselves and each other.

Excellence

We must deliver high level value-driven sales, a superior customer experience, and an enriching aesthetic. We must cultivate a culture of Candor by giving and receiving constructive criticism. We encourage the respectful challenge of ideas and authority with the common goal of developing our personal and collective excellence. We show up as Professionals: Look the part, be the part, show respect, be informed, be on time.

We also adhere to the 8 standards of the Better Business Bureau

  • To Build Trust
    Advertise Honestly
    Tell the Truth
Be transparent in all business dealings
    To honor Promises
    Be responsive in customer matters
    Safeguard Privacy
    Embody Integrity

Our Philosophy

We've learned the rules like pros, so we can break them like artists.

We specialize in working with purposeful brands to craft creative solutions that make the world a better place. Driven by a core strength of connectedness, we believe that design can support improving the lives of all, being responsible stewards of our environment while maximizing the bottom line. We excel where art, design, and communication intersect to transcend boundaries and build social bridges. We’re passionate about the power of our stories to connect us through our common hopes, dreams, and struggles. We take our work seriously and are seriously fun to work with.

We embrace the magic that happens when the warmth of the hand crafted dovetails into modern design.

Delivering the rare balance of graphic artistry and business acumen, Hornsby Creative brings to the table a strong background in environmental graphic design specializing in signs and special events marketing, as well as extensive hands on experience in sales, relationship management, business development and workflow solutions.

John Hornsby
Why I wear a mask. My wife is high risk immunocompromised. For her and others like her I wear a mask. My mother has a pulmonary condition. For her and others like her I wear a mask. My cousin is in chemotherapy. For her and for others like her I wear a mask. It shows care and respect for others.Wearing a mask is not living on a state of fear, or oppression against my liberties. I am sending a signal of compassion. That your increased safety, even if minimal, is more important than my minor inconvenience. Because I want it to be and feel safer for all of us to get back out and about. Is it true that viruses are smaller than the holes the fabric so they can still get through? Yes. (Fun fact : viruses have no color because they are smaller than the wavelength of visible light.) Is it also true that a cloth mask likely stops *some* of them in aeresol form? Yes. Some, varying on type and layers of fabric. So some protection is better than none. But don't let it lull you into a false sense of security either. Wear the mask. But please also presume it won't fully protect you. Still act like wearing the mask won't keep you safe, and take the same precautions. Don't touch your mask. The virus can live on it for 7 days. Make sure it covers your nose. Did you notice the tests for it are nasal swabs? Don't pull it down to talk, cough or sneeze. And still keep 6 ft from people you don't share a house with. Wash those hands a lot. I can't tell you how many guys I've seen leave the bathroom without washing their hands. I'll get outside for sure, but be respectful and responsible as I do
Chief Creative Director

An artist first with a background in old-school hand-drawn techniques, set design, sign craft, and graphic design. He is equally comfortable with pen and brush in hand or with a stylus and mouse.  He is able to call upon many traditional styles and themes as well as deliver original modern concepts.

John is an active supporter in the communities in which he works and lives.

A lover of music, he spent many years writing and performing in various musical groups. His work also included producing and mixing some of the albums. His started out in graphic design creating the artwork and posters as well as organizing many events, and promoting them. Decades later he finds himself designing a lot more and playing a lot less. But you might catch a social media post here and there with him and his guitar.

If you care to listen to some musical creations from his past you can do so here.
